Couples who have been married for decades are becoming increasingly rare. When you ask these couples who have been married for 50-60 years what their secret is, the answer is almost always different.
We recall one couple saying, “never go to bed mad at each other,” which stuck with us. Of course, trust and communication are excellent pieces of advice for newlyweds.
However, one North Carolina couple deserves all of the admiration and gratitude for celebrating 82 years of marriage. The couple also celebrated their 103rd and 100th birthdays, with a seven-day gap between them.
And the key to a long and happy marriage is quite simple.
D.V. Williams, 103, and Willie Williams, 100, had a well-deserved celebration at a church in Charlotte, where they celebrated their anniversary and birthdays while chanting with friends and family.
One couple shared the key to making love last while reflecting on their long marriage that spanned the Great Depression and the Civil Rights era — kindness. ❤️
«Seeing them at this age and in such good health is still wonderful; it’s a blessing they’re still alive,» said their granddaughter BJ Williams-Green.
The couple is only a few steps away from becoming the oldest married couple in the Guinness Book of Records. The current record is held by 100-year-old Miyako and her 108-year-old husband Masau Matsumoto of Japan.
The Japanese couple attributes the woman’s patience to their long marriage.
D.V. and Willie, on the other hand, said they didn’t have a big secret to their success. “Just be nice to each other,” Willie Williams said.
This is the kind of news we love to hear. Congratulations to the happy and mature couple.
What an achievement for the sweet couple — its no doubt that a good heart is the key to a long and happy life.
